Pakefield Beach Huts
Pakefield is one of our closest beaches, just a 10 minute drive from Ivy House and worth a visit because it’s a lovely little location, probably best-known for the pastel-coloured beach huts that line the beach. Many of these beach huts are available to hire for the day or week and if you haven’t had the luxury of a beach hut to yourself before, then it’s something you may like to consider, regardless of the season.
In the summer it makes a super comfortable base for a full day at the beach, providing a nice opportunity to take in some shade, enjoy a picnic and enjoy a spot of reading. In the autumn and winter many people still revel in the experience by taking a blanket, a bottle of fizz and some fish and chips - to be consumed watching the wild sea. Plus, most huts have tea and coffee making facilities so don’t forget to take some cake, and fresh milk!
What is the Pakefield Beach Like?
There’s a panoramic view out to the North Sea from Pakefield Beach, and Pakefield itself is a suburb of Lowestoft yet with its own identity as a peaceful, hidden gem. It’s a sand and pebble beach, with marram grass and sand dunes, with a small selection of fishing boats. It’s also a popular spot for fishing, wind and kite surfing, horse riding and anyone looking for a rural beach experience. There are plenty of amenities further up the beach in Lowestoft.
Lesser Known Things about Pakefield
Mainly due to coastal erosion it has become a geological site of special interest, with the crumbling cliffs often exposing important finds like fossils and flint tools dating back to 700,000 BC – which is some of the earliest pieces of evidence of human habitation.
